Description: A tall elven woman with long, jet, black hair, icy blue eyes who shows more of her japanese heritage than her anglo heritage. On a run she'll bind up her hair under a hood so that her hair doesn't get in the way and doesn't leave any traces (i.e. ritual samples). Due to the nature of her metabolism she tends to wear summer weight clothing year round and the colder the weather the more she likes it. The clothing she wears also tends to wear close fitting clothing and a loose belt that is black leather and embossed with silver and stones that look like blood red rubies (acutally her fetishes)

History:  She was originally from Kilington, Vt, where her father owned a fairly successful ski resort, so that the family was moderately wealthy and could send to any college she wanted to go and still live comfortably. Her father was anglo and her mother came from a traditional japanese family. While Reika's grandparents on her mother's side of the family surprisingly accepted that their granddaughter was a half-gaijin elf, the rest of the family wasn't so tolerant. Other than being treated with scorn by most of the family on her mother's side, Reika had a fairly uneventful childhood.  She was the ideal student and excelled in both academics and sports.
     Upon graduating from high school a year early she went to Cornell University to study genetics
(thus far she was unaware that she was magically active). During her winter break of her sophmore
year of college some friends invited her to go on a skiing trip to a private resort near Denver. Both
parents were reluctant to let her go because of the reputation of Denver being a war zone, but upon
being assured by the parents of the friend who set up the trip that the resort wasn't that close to
Denver and had excellent security they allowed her to go.
     The first few days of the trip went uneventfully and all the girls had a great time. Then Reika saw
something she shouldn't have while skiing in an underused area and was noticed herself. While she
was trying to get away, her pursuers started an avalanche that caught her and rolled over her. Her
pursuers left her for dead. When she woke up she had dug herself out of the snow without realizing it
and didn't know who she was.
     She wandered around for days surviving the extreme cold somehow (her magic had obviously
awakened) and stumbled across a cabin who's occupant promptly took her in. Her benefactor was a
kind, gentle, elderly Japanese man who'd been on vacation himself. He also happened to be
magically active in some way (he's never told her what he was exactly) and realized that in addition
to all her problems had a newly awakened gift of magic.
     Hakiro Hashimoto (the man who rescued Reika) checked the news to see if there were any
reports about the missing girl. There was only one that chilled them both, a discovery of a body of a
girl that looked very similar to Reika dug up from the same avalanche that had almost cost Reika her
life.  During the rest of the time they were at the cabin Hakiro helped Reika try to regain her memory
and recover from her ordeal, but she was only able to remember fragments of her life, her parents,
and the chase. Since she couldn't completely remember her parent's names and it was obvious that
she was presumed dead, Hakiro offered to let her come back to Seattle with him where he owned
and ran a dojo (the cabin belonged to one of his students, who said he needed a vacation and
offered the use of the cabin). She gratefully accepted.
     The six to eight months with Hakiro were hell for Reika. Not because he was cruel to her, but from nightmares that were slowly driving her over the edge. Concerned, Hakiro took her to a psychologist who was considered something of an expert with amnesia victims. Unfortunately for Reika, his reputation was overblown.
     The shrink gave her drugs that were supposed to help suppress the nightmares, and started to put her through therapy sessions to try to help her recover her lost memories. The shrink didn't realize (or even think to check) that she was now magically active, and the drugs did odd things to her ability to perceive the astral, and did absolutely nothing to the nightmares. One night, unable to take it anymore, she took out one of Hakiro's knives, and slashed both wrists and up along both arms almost to the bone. How he got her to the emergency room in time before the blood loss killed her. Fortuantely the doctor on call also happened to be a mage, and
realized what had happened, but not before she tried to claw her eyes out in the vain effort to stop perceiving.
    After some minor surgery to correct her self inflicted damge, Hakiro began to teach her karate to give her discipline and a way to center herself. She took to it easily and soon had the nightmares somewhat under control, though they both knew that they probably wouldn't go completely away until she could recover her past.  He also had a friend who was a street mage start teaching her the basics of magic to help control her late awakened gift.
    Realizing that she wouldn't be able to work for corp because of her SINless status, and knowing she needed a way to earn money to be able to recover the truth about her past, she asked Hakiro for advice, and he suggested in his roundabout way to run in the shadows.
    He was able to get her in touch with a team. At first she worked in well with the team, and she was able to repay Hakiro for all of his kindness to her during the years, then one of the sammies got shot in the head, and even though it was a glancing wound, there appeared to be some brain damage as he soon became...odd. After making odd comments about Reika's body temprature and vulernablity to heat and fire, he tried to stake her, seemingly beliving she was a vampire. One of the other sammies in the group managed to pull him off of her, and Reika took the opportunity to take off.
    Even though Reika hasn't been in the shadows for very long, she is quick to adapt to situations, and is solid magical backup. Though she tends to be withdrawn, she does display her inner warmth to very close friends. Though it has been over 4 years since Hakiro took Reika in, he still hasn't explained to her why he took her in, or why he is training her as his protege in the art of becoming a ninja.
    Reika enjoys reading and watching science fiction of all kinds, including late 20th century flatvids. She also enjoys spending quiet evenings with good friends, but from time to time she enjoys going to a dance club. Like any other mage, she likes to talk shop, but not for too long or too much. While she knows that she needs to understand theories, Reika's basic nature requires a certain amount of action, or hands on take on matters.
 
Note: She calls Hakiro Hashimoto Sensei, out of respect, and sees him as a second father.
